HDSLR

When you think of a photo camera do you think about video? Well you should! It's become a common shift for most still image camera's to have a video component. Now it may surprise you but lots of shows or music video that you currently watch may of been shot on an HDSLR camera.

For lower end film makers these camera's are as close to film as you can possibly get without breaking the bank. You have the ability to change lenses, which gives you a greater depth of field and aperture control which gives you a greater range in filming in low lighting. As a photographer knowing how to create video can boost your business and make you a more versatile player in this growing trend.

  1. Some HDSLR camera's can be pricey depending on name brands and features. Plus the models are constantly changing. Do you own one? I usually rent for my jobs, but I am thinking about buying one that I feel will be handy for at least the next two years to then sell again because I'm sure a new model will be out soon. I do not want to go over my budget, $2,500, do you have any suggestions or know of one that might be worth the wait in a couple of months?

  2. Joana P, the downside to technology is that it keeps changing and when you buy a new camera once you walk out the store you lose money. Kinda of like a new car, but hey the bright side is also that, technology keeps changing. For the amount of money you have saved unless you have a bunch of awesome lenses I would recommend buying an actual video camera. That way when you book jobs after at least four or five you've made most of your investment back and if you sell you never lost anything. I have one video camera and a still, because relying on others can bite you when your in a pinch so I highly recommend having something but get that investment back have some jobs lined up if not keep saving cause there is something always better and at a more reasonable price around the next corner. Keep in mind technology upgrades on an average 18 month period.
